Google Adsense Revenue Sharing Mod for Pligg Beta 8.2
Thursday, November 30th, 2006

PlugIM gets a lot of traffic from fellow Pligg site owners and by far the number one request I get is for our Google Adsense Revenue Sharing Mod.  Up until recently I only had the mod available for Pligg version 7.2 because that’s what PlugIM runs on.  However, since I’ve been working on upgrading PlugIM, I finally have the mod available for 8.2 as well.

I posted it on the Pligg forums here: PlugIM’s Google Adsense Revnue Sharing Mod for Pligg Beta 8.2

If you have any questions, please post them in that thread and I’ll be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.

Webmasters, add ‘Plug This’ Button to Your Site
Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

All the PlugIM surfers got a new toy for their browsers with the bookmarket, so we also decided to give the webmasters something to play with as well so we present to you:

For Webmasters: the “Plug This” Button

Add this button to your site, each article, page, story, or each blog post and your visitors will be able to plug it on PlugIM with the click of a button.  If any given story has all ready been submitted, the user is forwarded directly to it so they can give it a plug to help promote it further.  All you need to do is provide the url of the story and the story’s title and PlugIM will automatically fill them in for the user when they click the button.  They’ll just need to add a description, a couple tags and a category and they’re done.

The link format is as follows:

http://www.plugim.com/submit?url={url of the story}&title={title of the story}

Examples using this blog post to demonstrate:

‘Plug This’ button onlyResult:

‘Plug This’ button and text: Result:  Plug This

‘Plug This’ text onlyResult: Plug This

Or you can use the super easy method and use the Cuzimatter button maker which generates the code for you after you enter the url and title.  It makes buttons for PlugIM as well as Digg, Del.icio.us and BlinkList.

*Note: Please don’t hotlink to the button image.  If you want to use it, please save a copy of it, upload it to your server and link to that, thanks.

Let us know if you have any questions and happy buttoning to you!

‘Post to PlugIM’ Bookmarklet for your Browsers
Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

It’s the time you’ve all been waiting for!  You asked for it and you got it, a new incredibly useful feature has been added to PlugIM.com!

For Web Surfers: the “post to PlugIM” Bookmarklet

Add this as a bookmark or toolbar button in your browser and when you come across an article, story or great internet marketing product that you want to share with the PlugIM community, just click the button or bookmark and you’ll go directly to the submit story page on PlugIM with the link to the story and the story title all ready filled in.  All you need to do is add your description, tags and pick a category and you’re done.  If someone else has all ready submitted the same story to PlugIM, you’ll be forwarded right to it so you can give it a Plug.

*Tip: Check the ‘remember’ check box during login so you won’t have to login every time you use the bookmarket.

FireFox users: drag this link: post to PlugIM up to your Bookmarks Toolbar.

Internet Explorer users: right click this link: post to PlugIM and choose ‘Add to Favorites…’ and create the shortcut in the ‘Links’ folder.

Let us know if you have any questions, now get to posting and enjoy!

PlugIM Adds YouTube Video Support for Internet Marketing Videos
Friday, November 17th, 2006

We’ve been locked away in the office for the past several days working on more new features for PlugIM.com and the latest is the addition of embedded YouTube video support.  Now you can post your favorite internet marketing videos and tutorials to PlugIM.  If you have your own video that you want to promote, submit that too.

As always you can still add a link to your submission so if your video is promoting a site, link to the site and then embed the video in your post.  You can also add text along with the video.

Here’s how you do it: simply put the YouTube video code in between <youtube></youtube> tags (the YouTube video code is at the end of the video’s URL, example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgwbHzOec9I).  So in this example, your submission would look like this:

<youtube>dgwbHzOec9I</youtube>

That’s all there is to it.  PlugIM will take care of translating the YouTube tags into the proper embedding code when the story is displayed.  Audio and video are all ready playing a huge role in internet marketing so we felt rolling out this feature was a must.  Let us know if you have any questions and please enjoy!

Get Your Site Listed and Indexed in Google
Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

Do you have a website that you’ve had for a while and it’s still not listed in Google?  I’m talking a long while, like beyond the normal couple of months it usually takes.  You check your site logs and see the Google spider comes to crawl your site every week.  You’ve submitted your site to Google through their webmaster tools and abided by all of their regulations and yet still, if you search Google for “yoursitename.com” you’re no where to be found.

This is exactly what happened to PlugIM.  We registered the domain name in mid June and we’ve had the site up for about 4 months.  We’ve been live for two months and Google was crawling our site long before that.  Finally after all that time, one simple tip got us listed and indexed in Google.  PlugIM is the #1 result when Googling “PlugIM” or “PlugIM.com” and over 600 pages of our site have been indexed literally two days after acting on this tip.

Here’s the tip: submit a reinclusion request.  Like PlugIM.com, there’s a good chance someone previously owned your domain name before you and like buying a used car, you really have no idea what the previous owners did with it.  It’s possible your domain name is blacklisted from Google for any number of reasons based on prior ownership and now you have to clear your name.  Log in to your Google Webmaster Tools account and search on “reinclusion request”.  It’s a very simple form that allows you to enter your own comments.  Simply state you believe your site may be blacklisted for some reason but it’s under new ownership and you’d appreciate it if they took the time to take another look at your site and see if it meets their guidelines.  I did this for PlugIM and two days later we were listed and indexed.

Credit for this tip goes out to Firegirl of GeekGods.net who gave me the pointer over on the Digital Point forums.
