Get Your Site Listed and Indexed in Google

Do you have a website that you’ve had for a while and it’s still not listed in Google?  I’m talking a long while, like beyond the normal couple of months it usually takes.  You check your site logs and see the Google spider comes to crawl your site every week.  You’ve submitted your site to Google through their webmaster tools and abided by all of their regulations and yet still, if you search Google for “yoursitename.com” you’re no where to be found.

This is exactly what happened to PlugIM.  We registered the domain name in mid June and we’ve had the site up for about 4 months.  We’ve been live for two months and Google was crawling our site long before that.  Finally after all that time, one simple tip got us listed and indexed in Google.  PlugIM is the #1 result when Googling “PlugIM” or “PlugIM.com” and over 600 pages of our site have been indexed literally two days after acting on this tip.

Here’s the tip: submit a reinclusion request.  Like PlugIM.com, there’s a good chance someone previously owned your domain name before you and like buying a used car, you really have no idea what the previous owners did with it.  It’s possible your domain name is blacklisted from Google for any number of reasons based on prior ownership and now you have to clear your name.  Log in to your Google Webmaster Tools account and search on “reinclusion request”.  It’s a very simple form that allows you to enter your own comments.  Simply state you believe your site may be blacklisted for some reason but it’s under new ownership and you’d appreciate it if they took the time to take another look at your site and see if it meets their guidelines.  I did this for PlugIM and two days later we were listed and indexed.

Credit for this tip goes out to Firegirl of GeekGods.net who gave me the pointer over on the Digital Point forums.
